OUR STORY
Behind the Scenes
Here at North Gaston Volunteer Fire and Rescue, we're committed to investing our expertise and resources in order to further achieve our cause. Since 1960, we've been supporting our community members in a variety of ways and measuring our success not by monetary size, but by more qualitative measurements such as the scale and effectiveness of our efforts.
Our department is led by Chief Dennis Cash, who guides a dedicated team of volunteers serving High Shoals and the surrounding North Gaston area.
Since its founding in 1960, North Gaston Volunteer Fire and Rescue has built a legacy of dedicated service to High Shoals and the surrounding North Gaston area. What began as a small group of committed community members has grown into a respected department that answers emergency calls, provides medical assistance, and stands ready to protect lives and property at a moment's notice. The department operates under the principle that true service extends beyond responding to emergencies; it means being a steady, dependable presence that residents can count on through any situation. Every call is answered with professionalism and urgency, reflecting the deep sense of responsibility that each volunteer carries.
Volunteer membership is the lifeblood of the department, and the station actively seeks individuals who feel called to make a real difference in their community. New members receive comprehensive training that prepares them for the physical and emotional demands of emergency response, from fire suppression techniques to medical aid protocols. The department meets regularly to conduct drills, review procedures, and strengthen the teamwork that is essential when every second counts. Whether someone is pursuing a career in public safety or simply wants to give back to their neighbors, the volunteer experience offers meaningful challenges, lasting camaraderie, and the profound satisfaction of serving a cause greater than oneself.
Beyond emergency response, the department is deeply committed to fire prevention, safety education, and community outreach. Through public education initiatives, firefighters share life-saving knowledge about smoke alarms, home escape planning, and injury prevention with local families and schools. These proactive efforts reflect a core belief that the best emergency is the one that never happens. By building strong relationships with residents and local organizations, the department fosters a culture of preparedness and mutual support. Every training session, every prevention talk, and every community event strengthens the bond between the station and the people it serves, creating a safer, more resilient community for everyone.
